Stuart's Farm at Granite Springs is one of very few orchards within an hour of New York City that charges nothing to walk into the rows: "free parking and we do not charge an orchard fee."
Apples from Labor Day weekend, and peaches before them. The farm asks you to ring to see which varieties are available rather than assuming.
The farmstand opens 9am to 6pm and picking 10am to 4:30pm, which is two and a half hours shorter.
Cash or cheque only. Hayrides run at weekends.
Pro tip: in a region where a Saturday in an orchard can cost $27 a head before you touch an apple, free parking and no gate fee is worth driving past three farms for.
