Stone Ridge Orchard is a 200-year-old working farm on 115 acres in the Rondout Valley, and it picks something almost nowhere else here does: Asian pears.
In the orchard's own words: "U-Pick apples and Asian pears are available from labor day weekend till the end of October."
The named early varieties are Asian Pears, Gala and Ginger Gold.
A farmstand with produce, baked goods, apple cider and hard cider, open daily 9am to 6pm. A Farm Bar at weekends in September and October, noon to 6pm, with cider flights plus New York beer, wine and cocktails.
Picking runs daily, 10am to 5pm.
Pro tip: Asian pears are picked ripe and eaten straight off the tree, unlike European pears which need days in a bowl. They are also the reason to come here rather than to the apple orchard next door.
We list what we have confirmed. If something you need is not shown, it is worth calling the farm to check.
Our own assessment, scored the same way for every farm on the site, from what each farm publishes about itself. Not a visit, and not a public review score.
Pick-your-own hours from the orchard, daily in season. The farmstand runs 9am to 6pm and the farm bar noon to 6pm at weekends.
