At Red Apple Barn in Ellijay the picking hours and the market hours are two different things, and the picking window is much the narrower of the two. This is the single most useful thing to know before setting out.
The farm market keeps much longer hours, Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 1pm to 5:30pm, but the orchard is not open for picking then.
$12.75 a head plus taxes and fees, children two and under free. That covers a great deal: the tractor ride, an apple from the orchard, cider, a doughnut, the barn animals, playgrounds, swings, picnic areas, flower picking, pumpkin painting and the farm workshops.
Apple bags are separate: $7 a quarter-peck, $12 a half-peck, $22 a peck, $36 a half bushel.
The market is the draw for a great many visitors on its own: apple pies, doughnuts, bread, fritters and cider.
The farm currently reports itself open. It publishes an apple tasting chart, which is worth reading before choosing a row.
Pro tip: turning up on a Wednesday gets you the market and no picking. It is an easy mistake and the website does not make it obvious.
We list what we have confirmed. If something you need is not shown, it is worth calling the farm to check.
Our own assessment, scored the same way for every farm on the site, from what each farm publishes about itself. Not a visit, and not a public review score.
