Fitzgerald Fruit Farms

Fitzgerald Fruit Farms is a small farm in rural Woodbury, in Meriwether County, where the farm's own pitch is that you step back to a simpler time. The shop is called The Shed, and between the two of them they are open seven days a week whether or not anything is being picked.

What You Can Pick

Strawberries, and this farm picks them twice a year, which almost nowhere else in Georgia does:

• Spring - opening in early April and running through the first of June
• Late autumn - from a second crop planted for the purpose, opened for picking when the weather allows

The autumn picking is not guaranteed and depends on the season, so it is worth a phone call rather than a drive.

What Else is Available

The Shed is the reason a lot of people stop here in the months when the patch is shut:

• Homemade ice cream, made with the farm's own strawberries
• Fruit wines
• Fresh produce
• Work by local makers - the farm gives shelf space to nearby craftspeople and features them by name
• A porch to sit on, which the farm suggests you use

Good to Know

Open Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm, and Sunday from 12:30pm.

Ring after rain. The farm closes the patch when it is wet and asks you to call and check it has reopened before setting out.

Pro tip: pick, then go straight to The Shed for ice cream made from the same berries. The farm suggests it itself, and it is the right order to do it in.
