Bank's Vineyard

Bank's Vineyard is fifteen acres of muscadines and scuppernongs on Banks Road at Fayetteville, south of the city, and the cheapest fruit within reach of Atlanta. It is a short, late season: the vines open in the middle of August and are finished by the middle of October.

What You Can Pick

• Muscadines and scuppernongs - $2 a pound, with September and October the months that matter
• Tomatoes and other summer crops alongside the grapes

Pre-picked fruit is sold as well, if you would rather not go into the rows.

Good to Know

Open seven days a week, 9am to 6pm. The vineyard asks pickers to arrive at least an hour before closing so there is time to pick properly, which makes 5pm the real cut-off.

The best way to reach the owner is a text to 770-633-9085. She says plainly that she cannot always answer the phone.

Fruit is weighed at the stand when you come back in. More than one picker has said they could not see the scale from where they stood, and that the basket was weighed along with the fruit, so it is worth asking to see the reading and checking what an empty basket weighs before you start.

Pro tip: a scuppernong is a bronze muscadine and tastes nothing like a supermarket grape. If you have never had one off the vine, this is the cheapest place near Atlanta to find out, and the only one open this late in the year.
