Schwallier's Country Basket on 9 Mile Road at Sparta sits in the middle of the Fruit Ridge, and it opens at seven in the morning on weekdays, which is unusual for an orchard and useful in September heat.
Open seasonally, August to October.
Entry to the farm is free. You only pay for the attractions:
A farm animal barn, a children's play area, the N.O.B. Café, the market, a pumpkin patch and story time sessions for young children.
The pattern shifts through the season. In August it is weekdays only, 7am to 5pm, shut at weekends. From early September it runs seven days, weekdays 7am to 6pm and weekends from 9am.
Pro tip: SnapDragon and Triumph are both recent varieties bred for flavour rather than shipping, and neither turns up in a supermarket. Ask which block they are in.
We list what we have confirmed. If something you need is not shown, it is worth calling the farm to check.
Our own assessment, scored the same way for every farm on the site, from what each farm publishes about itself. Not a visit, and not a public review score.
Main season hours, early September to the end of October. Earlier in August the farm opens weekdays only, 7am to 5pm, and is shut at weekends.
